DGPT Adds Seth Munsey as Director of Health and Sports Performance

Jeffersonville, VT – April 6, 2021: The Disc Golf Pro Tour (DGPT) is pleased to announce that Seth Munsey will be joining its staff as Director of Health and Sports Performance. In this role, Munsey will usher in new standards and programs that will better the fitness, performance, and wellness of disc golfers competing at the sport’s highest level. Seth, a Wilderness First Responder, will also provide emergency response coordination at DGPT events and work closely with CEO and Director Jeff Spring to oversee safety considerations for the Tour.

Seth has been a fitness and performance coach since 2007. He received a B.S. in Kinesiology (Exercise Science) from California State University Fullerton, where he studied anatomy, physiology, biomechanics, sports psychology, and human performance. During college, he worked as a Strength and Conditioning Intern Coach for the NHL’s Anaheim Ducks. Munsey also ran his own gym for four years, with a holistic concept focused on improving the strength, health and lives of its members.

Seth has held numerous fitness certifications and has taught for two fitness organizations as a Master Instructor and Lead Instructor, which included certifying fitness professionals as instructors in those training systems. He has served in the U.S. Coast Guard (‘99-’03) in San Francisco, completing search and rescue and law enforcement operations, has worked on an ambulance running 911 emergency calls, and was an on-call firefighter for the Orange County Fire Authority.

Seth turned his sights to disc golf after hearing fellow players complain of pain and injuries far too often while playing. He founded Disc Golf Strong in early 2016, which provides the information and tools disc golfers need to properly prepare their bodies for the rigors of the sport. With Disc Golf Strong, Seth has worked with all levels of disc golfers, from multi-time world champions to people who only recently started playing. Seth is also the chair of the PDGA Medical Committee.

Munsey will be on-site at all DGPT Elite Series events to establish professional warm-up, cool-down, and training areas for all pro competitors. along with providing his training expertise. Regarding his new role with the tour, Munsey offered, “disc golfers, at all levels, are athletes.  As such, it is important to keep the body healthy for both optimal performance and lowered risk of injury. The Disc Golf Pro Tour has taken the health of their athletes seriously and it is a privilege to play an integral role in the evolution of the health and safety of our athletes.”

While his role with the DGPT will increase, Munsey will continue to run Disc Golf Strong, focusing on training services for amateurs and retaining some professional touring clients. As the sport grows, the DGPT knows that some pros will have their own teams, including personal training staff in the future. Munsey will serve to coordinate with all outside health and fitness vendors and competitor staff, to not only vet each resource but to connect them with the appropriate on-site space and resources to do their work.

“Seth fills critical roles that will upgrade the DGPT’s venue and event site management practices while at the same time providing additional resources to add to the professionalism of the touring player experience,” said DGPT CEO & and Director, Jeff Spring. “We see this hire as not only an investment in Seth and all the fantastic and inspirational work he has done through his company Disc Golf Strong, but also as an investment in the touring professionals that commit their lives to the sport. Many touring pros rely on Seth for health and sports performance services, and we are proud to bring him on board in a more meaningful way as a long term investment in competitor health and venue safety.”
