DGPT Launches Voting for Offseason Awards

Fan & Media votes contribute to the awarding of All Stars, inaugural DGPT Player of the Year Awards named in honor of Ken Climo & Elaine King

The Disc Golf Pro Tour is excited to kick off fan voting for the 2021 Awards Season! Fans will have the opportunity to vote for the Players of Year awards, the final 4 players to join the DGPT All Stars for both the MPO & FPO divisions, as well as Most Improved Player. Rookie of the Year and the Top 8 All Star awards are determined through DGPT Standings.

“After the excitement surrounding the inaugural DGPT All Stars in 2020, we wanted to take another step forward in establishing important off-season awards for competitors of the Disc Golf Pro Tour. The team pulled together a great slate of awards that are earned through the endorsement of a variety of sources.” Said Jeff Spring, DGPT CEO & Director. “The fans, the media surrounding the DGPT, and the player’s own point standings and results; they all play a role in determining the winners.”

Debuting this season are the new Player of the Year awards, the Ken Climo Player of the Year Award representing the MPO division, and the Elaine King Player of the Year Award representing the FPO division. “It was important to us to use this opportunity to recognize two of the transcendent professional competitors in disc golf history. Their dominance in their respective divisions was unprecedented at the time, and both Elaine and Ken still hold important records yet to be broken.”

“I am truly and deeply honored that the DGPT is naming a Player of the Year award after me. Disc Golf has immensely enriched my life. I am grateful for all the life lessons that I have learned through competition and all the amazing friendships I have made along the way” said Elaine King. “I hope the future recipients of this award will be similarly blessed.” Along with serving on the PDGA Board of Director, Elaine recently hit 300 professional wins, the current professional record.

“I am truly honored for this award to bear my name. I send my thanks for the recognition of my career accomplishments in this distinguished manner” said Ken Climo. Climo dominated the MPO division for over a decade, nearly winning every World Championship in the 1990s.

The voting will run through Thanksgiving, and the final results will be announced at a later date.
