MVP Open to Host Disc Golf’s Richest Ace Contest

16 of the best disc golfers in the world will attempt to make a million-dollar shot

September 22nd, 2022: Update – due to weather delays on the ground during the first round of the MVP Open at Maple Hill, the timing of the East Coast Metal Roofing Million Dollar Shot has been updated. The MPO portion of this contest will take place on Saturday, not on Thursday. Catch all the live coverage on the Disc Golf Network!

  • 6:00 PM, Thursday, 9/22  Saturday, 9/24: Eight men, 600 feet, three throws each, Maple Hill hole 1. 6:00 PM ET.
  • 6:00 PM, Friday, 9/23: Eight women, 450 feet, three throws each, Maple Hill hole 1. 6:00 PM ET.

September 19th, 2022: Come watch eight men and eight women take a shot at winning one million dollars. Taking place at the Disc Golf Pro Tour’s MVP Open, the most accurate distance throwers in the world will throw three shots each at a basket that is placed on the hole 1 fairway. Make it in and win a million.

Players that will be chosen to throw for the million dollars must be qualified for the MVP Open and will be determined via a fan vote and the Precise Power Index (PPI), a soon-to-be-released statistic generated by UDisc, the industry leader in disc golf statistics. The top six men and women in the PPI will join the two men and women that get in via the fan vote.

How to watch. The event is free to all day-of MVP Open ticket holders. Media are encouraged to attend and must get a Media Pass prior to the event. Please apply online with the DGPT to secure a Media Pass. The Million Dollar Shot will be broadcast live on Disc Golf Network (DGN) immediately after the Thursday and Friday live broadcasts of the MVP Open and recorded for post production by Gatekeeper Media.

The most important throw in disc golf history? Our goal is to give away one million dollars and give James Conrad’s Holy Shot and Philo Brathwaite’s Philobatross a run for their money as the most impactful single throw in disc golf! There will be over a thousand people watching the throws in person as well as tens of thousands watching online. The venue, insurance, partner support, statistics, coverage and the tournament all came together to make this event possible.

Presenting partner East Coast Metal Roofing’s owner Paul Lechiara said, “I was excited when I received a call from Steve [Dodge] about the Million Dollar Shot. East Coast Metal Roofing has helped to grow the sport here in New England by donating to various causes and courses. What better way to grow the sport than to give a pro a Million Dollars!!! Members of our team will be there watching to see someone hit the 1st Million Dollar Shot. Good luck to all who are participating.”

Disc Golf Pro Tour CEO Jeff Spring said, “The MVP Open at Maple Hill, the crowning event of the DGPT Point Series, makes history on the pro side of the sport year after year. The Million Dollar Shot continues the tradition of pushing the boundaries of disc golf entertainment. We are proud to be collaborating with Steve [Dodge] to make sure that all of the Disc Golf Network subscribers can watch these throws live. Thursday and Friday of the MVP Open at Maple Hill may mark a new era in disc golf prize winnings.”

MVP Open Tournament Director Steve Dodge said, “When this ace is hit, it is going to be the biggest shot in disc golf history. With the tremendous growth of the sport that has happened in the past two years, more media than ever will be chomping at the bit to get a piece of the excitement that will be generated. I cannot wait to have the MVP Open be a part of the magic that pushes the sport to even higher levels.”

Maple Hill General Manager, Ryan Daige, said, “The Million Dollar Shot is a big milestone in disc golf history. We are proud to host this event as well as the MVP Open. It’s surreal to think that Maple Hill will host what could be the single richest disc golf shot in history. This is a tremendous opportunity for 16 players and an honor for Maple Hill. We can’t wait to be a part of this groundbreaking event.”

Co-Founder of UDisc, Matt Krueger, said, “We started working on the Precise Power Index (PPI) stat in early 2022 as a way to better reflect a player’s combined accuracy and distance. When Steve approached us about hosting a million dollar ace competition, we knew it would be a great venue to help show off this new metric and highlight the players who rank best in the category. We can’t wait to see disc golf’s most powerful and accurate competitors throw for this historic payout!”

Mike Calzone, manager of Foy Insurance, said, “Thanks to the team effort of Steve providing loads of stats and a London broker willing to listen, we were finally able to secure coverage for both the Men’s and Women’s Million Dollar Shots. This is the most exciting coverage I’ve had the opportunity to provide any client in my career. Thank you MVP Open. I’ve never wished a client to have a claim…until now.”
