Portland Open Adds Dynamic Discs as Presenting Partner and Changes Venues

Portland, OR – May 5, 2021: The Portland Open and the Disc Golf Pro Tour (DGPT) are pleased to announce Dynamic Discs as the presenting sponsor of the Elite Series event set to take place June 4-6. Additionally, the event will shift to a new venue, Glendoveer Golf & Tennis, located 10 minutes closer to downtown Portland than the event’s original venue, Blue Lake Regional Park.

The first iteration of the Portland Open was held in 2019 at Blue Lake, with Drew Gibson winning the men’s division and Paige Pierce winning the women’s division. The 2020 tournament was canceled due to COVID-19 restrictions. Uncertainty regarding COVID-19 has again impacted the event, precipitating the venue change. “While we love the Blue Lake course, uncertainty regarding MetroPark’s ability to honor our course reservation due to COVID-19 concerns made it necessary to shift the event to our backup venue at Glendoveer.” Said Jeff Spring, DGPT CEO & Director.

Glendoveer is a private venue and has a history of hosting premier sporting events including, the Nike Cross Nationals (NXN), which has included thousands of spectators. The property will feature a course designed by Dustin Keegan, who is a professional course designer with Disc Golf Park, as well as a touring professional competitor. The men’s track will be a par 66, measuring at 11,763 feet, and the women’s course will play as a par 69 at 10,185.

While the event will aim to reintroduce Blue Lake in future years, as a private venue, Glendoveer will remain as part of the Portland Open’s future. “The expansion of the event to include Glendoveer is an opportunity we had set our sights on, and the change this year is a fantastic way to accelerate our vision of what the Portland Open can be,” said Spring. “With towering pines and picturesque fairways, the venue will bring a new element to the Portland Open.”

The Portland Open presented by Dynamic Discs is owned and operated by the DGPT. The event, founded by Spring in 2019, will see Brian Cole step in to serve as the Tournament Director for the event. Cole is the Operations Manager for the Disc Golf Pro Tour as well as the President of the Stumptown Disc Golf Club. “I’m thrilled to lead the Portland Open into the next phase of its development. Portland Disc Golf and the Pacific Northwest have a special place in the disc golf community and the DGPT is proud to work with the Stumptown Disc Golf Club and the Portland disc golf community to bring a DGPT event to the city.”

More information regarding the Portland Open presented by Dynamic Discs, including COVID restrictions, phase, and spectator information, will be released in the upcoming weeks. The event can be seen live on the Disc Golf Network June 4-6.
