Statement on Current DGPT Restart Planning

By Jeff Spring

The PDGA Elite Series was suspended on Friday, May 13, 2020, making today 10-weeks since pausing the 2020 Disc Golf Pro Tour season due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Over the past month, the Disc Golf Pro Tour has been in constant communication with dozens of our partners, events, colleagues, and medical experts as we strive towards setting a responsible return to play date for the 2020 Tour.

Today, we can share that we are targeting a return to sanctioned DGPT competition in late June. We believe we will be able to release the details of our restart schedule early next week. While there is still uncertainty regarding the final details of the schedule for the restart, we can confirm that we are working hand-in-hand with the Professional Disc Golf Association to make adjustments to the professional touring schedule that we believe will give a clear picture through the end of the 2020 season.

The decision to restart our season is in large part due to the excellent and responsible work the PDGA has done to set the table for a return of sanctioning. The DGPT has decided to only run events that can gain PDGA sanctioning, and follow all PDGA Best Practices that they have laid out. We encourage all players and fans of the game to educate themselves on the current Best Practices and to ensure that they are taking proper precautions when playing and competing in the sport we all love.

In addition to the PDGA Best Practices, we are finalizing a comprehensive guide of policies and best practices that will allow a responsible return to Elite Series and touring competition focused on DGPT considerations. We plan to release these guidelines well before the DGPT nears our restart date. We understand the depth of the numerous and meaningful considerations that must be weighed and thank the touring competitors for their patience and our partners for working with us towards a DGPT restart in 2020. We look forward to sharing more details next week.
