2019 WACO presented by Dynamic Discs Final Round MPO Recap: A Familiar Battle Unfolds

By Baker Helton
Going into the final round of the Waco Annual Charity Open presented by Dynamic Discs those watching in Waco and at home were left reeling from Paul McBeth’s -18 round. His -18 this weekend was in contrast to the -18 at DGLO last year where his second round performance vaulted him into the lead. This year, his -18 performance left him two throws behind Ricky Wysocki.

Early in the round, Paul was able to gain one throw on Ricky on hole four when he landed a birdie three to Ricky’s par four. On the next three holes, Paul and Ricky would go shot-for-shot keeping one throw between each other until there was a lead change on hole eight. Ricky would card a bogey four and Paul would take a birdie two. This would give Paul a one throw lead which became a tie on the next hole when Ricky carded the eagle on nine and Paul landed a birdie after going into the rough on the drive. Paul would then card a par four on hole ten while Ricky landed the birdie three to regain the lead. He would hold the lead on hole eleven, and then McBeth would tie him again on hole twelve. They would stay tied until hole fifteen where Paul McBeth regained the lead with a birdie while Ricky landed the par. Paul said his putt on 17 is what sealed it for him. He was able to throw across the water on 18 for an easy up and down to finish the tournament three throws ahead of Ricky Wysocki.

Outside of the lead card, Seppo Paju and Alex Russell both made big pushes during their rounds today. Seppo Paju carded a par on four, twelve, thirteen, and fourteen; outside of those four holes, he landed a birdie on every other hole today. Seppo moved up four spots to tie Alex Russell for third place. An ace on hole eight bolstered Alex Russell’s hot round. Alex carded pars on holes four, eleven, and twelve today for a respectable -16 finish. Alex moved up nine spots to tie for third place with his -16.

Also carding an ace today on hole eight was Tim Barham who finished the tournament tied for thirteenth carding an -11 for the day. Other hot rounds included Eric Oakley and Austin Hannum who both finished with a -14 on the day with no bogeys. Gregg Barsby finished -13 with a bogey-free round as well.

The Waco Annual Charity Open presented by Dynamic Discs did not disappoint this weekend. The Disc Golf Pro Tour takes a break for a month and will return April 12-14 for the Play It Again Sports Jonesboro Open presented by Prodiscus. Make plans to tune in and watch!
