2020 Disc Golf Pro Tour Championship Fan Preview

By Baker Helton

The 2020 Disc Golf Pro Tour Championship kicks off on Thursday, October 15th, and it’s shaping up to be one of the most exciting events of 2020, if not disc golf history.

From the updated format, to the added cash, to the coverage, to the ways fans can get involved, there’s something for everyone.

Updated Format
The Disc Golf Pro Tour has tweaked the Tour Championship over the years, which is no different this year. Instead of winning your card in the later rounds, the best score will advance through each round. A player looking to make the Championship from the qualifier or quarterfinals rounds will need two to three hot rounds to make it to Championship Sunday.

Added Cash
The Disc Golf Pro Tour Championship will feature one of the largest payouts in MPO history and the largest payout in FPO history, with the winner of each division taking home $15,000 each minimum. Second place in each division will net $7,500, third place $3,800, and fourth place $2,500.

The Disc Golf Pro Tour Championship is unique in that all players will get paid. Those who do not advance from round one will receive $700 each. Non-advancing quarterfinalists will receive $1,100 in MPO and $900 in FPO, and non-advancing semi-finalists will receive $1,500 each.

The 2020 Disc Golf Pro Tour Championship will be covered in more ways than ever before! Jomez Pro, Gatekeeper Media, and GK Pro will all be on hand to provide post-production coverage throughout the weekend. The Disc Golf Network will bring a separate MPO and FPO broadcast for each day of competition. The FPO broadcast will happen Friday, Saturday, and Sunday during the morning with the MPO broadcast taking place Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday in the afternoon. On top of the regular coverage outlets, a two-hour special on the MPO and FPO Championship rounds will air on ESPN2 in November. Fans will have plenty of opportunities to watch!

As always, scores will be updated in real-time on Udisc Live. Photography will be added to the DGPT Flickr page daily from Alyssa Van Lanen and other local photographers.

Get Involved!
Beyond watching online, there are two other ways fans can get involved with the 2020 Disc Golf Pro Tour Championship.

  1. The Bushnell Bracket Challenge. The challenge is live now at, and fans have until the Championship start to submit their picks. Prizes will be given out to the top three finishers in both the MPO and FPO bracket challenges. Winners of each bracket challenge will receive a Bushnell Sport 850 Range Finder. Fans taking second and third place in each bracket challenge will receive Bushnell’s 10×42 Nitro Binoculars.
  2. Limited VIP Passes available to Spectate. The Disc Golf Pro Tour, per local regulations and in the interest of safety for competitors, will allow a minimal number of spectators to follow each card during the Tour Championship. Individuals wishing to spectate will purchase a VIP pass that is assigned to a specific card. They will be required to follow all DGPT and local COVID-19 Guidelines, including wearing a mask at all times while on the premises. Only 12 fans will follow each card throughout the round. There will be no congregating of fans at any point on the course. Passes must be purchased before the event and include a piece of merchandise from the Disc Golf Pro Tour. Available passes can be purchased in the DGPT Pro Shop.
