All-Star Weekend Round 1 Recap – 2023

The top disc golfers were back in action with the start of All-Star Weekend. On Friday (2/17/2023), the top 8 men and women in the world battled in the Skills Competition featuring three unique challenges: Putting, Controlled Distance, and Shot-Shaping/Accuracy.

Putting Challenge (1 point):

Gannon Buhr and Corey Ellis showcased their elite putting skills through all six stations with the winning total of 71 points, earning their team a valuable win towards the end of the Putting Skills Competition challenge. Paul McBeth and Isaac Robinson fell just short with a total score of 70 points.

On the women’s side, Catrina Allen and Alexis Mandujano led the way finishing with 70 total points in the Putting Challenge!

Catrina Allen bests Missy Gannon in the first round of the Putting Challenge 26-21.

Controlled Distance (1 point):

Simon Lizotte and Kyle Klein represented Team Ricky in the Controlled Distance challenge throwing a combined total of 1,294 feet which won them the challenge! The longest throw of the day was from Kyle Klein’s roller that clocked in at 682′ feet.

On the women’s side, Henna Blomroos and Jennifer Allen represented Team Catrina in the Controlled Distance challenge throwing a combined total of 873 feet which won them the challenge! Jennifer Allen’s longest shot clocked in at 453 feet.

Accuracy (1 point):

Joel Freeman and Chris Dickerson represented Team Paul in the Accuracy challenge. Freeman and Dickerson attained a total of 43 points through all 5 stations!

On the women’s side, Sarah Hokom and Eveliina Salonen represented Team Catrina in the Accuracy challenge. Hokom and Salonen combined for a total dominating score of 48 points through all 5 stations! Sarah Hokom ended her shot-shaping round with an FPO All-Star ACE giving her team the highlight-reel win!

Don’t forget to tune in to the Disc Golf Network on Saturday (2/18/2023) to catch the players competing in head-to-head best shot stroke play doubles (FPO 9 AM MT/11 AM ET | MPO 1 PM MT/3 PM ET).

Then on Sunday (2/19/2023), tune in to the Disc Golf Network to watch our players compete in head-to-head stroke play singles (FPO 9 AM MT/11 AM ET MPO 1 PM MT/3 PM ET). The matchups are determined by the initial seeds coming into the event (not the draft order). 7 points are available, one point in each matchup.

02/17/2023 – 1:00 PM MT

UPDATE: Ricky Wysocki has withdrawn from All-Star weekend due to a wrist injury. 

Gannon Buhr will take over as captain for Team Ricky, but the team name will remain the same on UDisc and Disc Golf Network throughout the weekend.

Corey Ellis will be filling in for Wysocki and will take his place for Friday’s skills and Saturday’s doubles competition. Ellis will also become the new #6 seed for Team Ricky in Sunday’s singles competition and will face off against Kevin Jones. All other players on Team Ricky will now be bumped up one spot in the singles seeding, with Gannon Buhr representing the #1 seed against Paul McBeth.

*Kristin Tattar and Paige Pierce were named All-Stars but will not be in attendance

The event follows a modified Ryder Cup format.
