Florida Face-Off: How to Watch the DGPT – Open at Tallahassee Presented by Dynamic Discs

After much anticipation, The Open at Tallahassee Presented by Dynamic Discs will be making its return as the next stop on the Disc Golf Pro Tour 2022 Silver Series.

Due to COVID-19 cancellations, the pros have not played in Tallahassee since 2019. They will be returning to Tom Brown Park which clocks in at just under 9,000 ft of distance for MPO, with FPO hovering around 7,500 ft.

The course will require both technical and distance shots from players, with lots of tightly wooded fairways giving way to a slightly more open course on the back half. There is also a surprising amount of elevation compared to typical Florida terrain, which can lead to some punishing rollaways if players aren’t careful.

In 2019, the Open saw an exciting early lead from veteran JohnE McCray who shot the hot first round at -14. The race then fell between Paul McBeth and Calvin Heimburg who came from behind in the final round to take the win.

Matt Orum will be one to watch this year – he took 3rd behind McBeth in 2019, after winning back to back in 2017 and 2018. Valerie Mandujano will also be out looking for the win this week after starting her season strong with three top 4 finishes.

This year’s event will be the largest turnout in Tallahassee by a landslide, with 118 signed up in MPO and 26 in FPO, compared to 32 and 11 respectively in 2019. With the Open now joining the Silver Series, we can expect to see similar turnouts in the future as more pros enter the field.
