Majestic Round 2: Men tighten up as Sarah Hokom takes control

On the ladies side, Sarah Hokom takes a commanding six stroke lead into the Final Round on Sunday. She leads Catrina Allen, the #1 ranked woman in the world, by six, Leslie Todd by ten and Zoe Andyke and Lisa Fajkus by eleven. Sarah, like most of the women, had a rough start, but was able to bounce back and settle in to record the hot round of the day with a one over par 74.
Catrina Allen, pretty much the only woman that could catch Sarah at this point, lost seven strokes on just two holes (12 & 18). With the lead being six, those two holes point out that Catrina could be nipping on her heels. If Catrina is going to make a push, it will need to come in the daunting first nine holes. Six of the hardest eight holes are on the front nine . After that, if Catrina has not closed the gap, expect Hokom to cruise in to her second straight Pro Tour victory.

On the men’s side , Nate Sexton’s commanding lead over everyone but Dutch Napier, quickly evaporated. On the first five holes he was one over par. There was a big contingent that would take advantage and close the gap: McBeth was five down (he would birdie the first seven holes), Ulibarri, Wysocki, Barsby were all four down, while Leiviska, Williams, Doss all started with three down.

After bogeying hole six, Eagle McMahon birdied seven of the next eight to put his name in the hat as well. He would finish at twelve down to pull into third with Cale Leiviska. Cale would shoot the second hottest round of the day at 13 down catapulting himself onto the lead card with Eagle.

The hot round of the day would belong to Ricky Wysocki, a 59. Fourteen down. A seemingly amazing feat if not for Nate Sexton’s almost flawless 56 of the day before. Ricky came into the round eight strokes behind and he came to play. He hit an insane 91% fairways, backed it up with 91% C1 putting, and hit two of four from C2. His lone OB stroke on 17 stands out as the one error on a round that pulled him way back.

The story of the day however has to be the roller coaster round of Nate Sexton who stumbled on holes 5 & 6, managed to lose the lead to a few different people throughout the day, but recovered strong with birdies on the final three holes. He ends the day with a 65, eight down, and goes into the final round with a two stroke lead over Wysocki and a three stroke lead over Leiviska and McMahon.

Geisinger, Williams, Napier and Doss will make for an impressive chase card. Indeed, the men have tightened up as Sarah Hokom takes control.

Final Round of the Majestic goes live at 2:40 CST.
