In 2017, we have three feature writers, each of whom did a preview piece. Read up and get the popcorn ready, the 2017 season is finally here!

The Memorial Championship presented by Discraft is one of the most storied events in disc golf. Through its first 25 years, Steve Rico, Barry Schultz, Dave Feldberg and Paul McBeth each won three times. Last year, Paul McBeth won his fourth Memorial title giving him the most MPO titles. In the last six years, Paul McBeth has either won the Memorial or lost in a playoff. He will be on the feature card in Round 1, which goes live at 2 PM local time, 4 PM EST.

Ricky Wysocki, according to the DGPT Power Rankings, has been the world’s #1 player since the Summer of 2016, continues to have the hot hand. Not only has he has never won the Memorial Championship presented by Discraft, he has never finished in the top four. In the last six years, his finish positions have been: 29th, 12th, 5th, 12th, 6th, 6th. As the Aussie Open demonstrated, he can start the season strong, so it is not a rust issue. Perhaps there is something in the Arizona air that holds him back, but even so, I would not bet against our sport’s number one player.
Eagle McMahon and Simon Lizotte round out the feature card. Eagle has been steadily rising up the power rankings and is clearly a fan favorite. While everyone expects him to have (another) breakout year, it may be too early to expect a win at the first Pro Tour event of the season. Meanwhile Simon was at the top of his game and challenging for wins at every event until an injury shortened his 2016 season. It will probably take some time for him to get back into the flow, but we are confident that he will make some shots that impress his growing legions of fans.
This is the most star studded feature card we have ever seen. Get ready to watch. Our staff writers have each written a little piece about what the event means to them and who they think will take down the title. Enjoy, and get ready to watch!
