Utah Open Day One Recap: Cat and McBeth shoot hot in day one

In 2017 The Utah Open was a fan favorite stop on the Disc Golf Pro Tour. Anticipation has been building for this stop in 2018 since Ricky Wysocki’s walk-off ace last year
As players arrived at Mulligan’s Creek Disc Golf Course they were greeted by the stunning mountain range that circles the course . There is no doubt that this is one of the most scenic stops on the tour.
But the time for golf came. The light-hearted atmosphere dissipated as the best disc golfers in the world took the tee box .
Cat is hot! Coming off of a win at the Beaver State Fling , Catrina Allen was looking to repeat as champion of the Utah Open . Her round had a rocky start; Cat was sitting at three over through the first six holes. But with a conservative gameplan and a fantastic birdie on hole 18 Cat went into the clubhouse with a two over 60.
Not to be outdone Jessica Weese came in tied with Cat with a 60. But in contrast, Jessica carded three birdies, three bogeys, and a single double bogey.
For round two we will see Catrina Allen, Jessica Weese, Lisa Fajkus and Paige Bjerkaas on the lead card.
MPO Hot Rounds The most impressive round came from 992 rated Preston Johnson. Preston, who is nationally unknown, entered the clubhouse shooting an incredible seven down, rated 1046 . But this only gave Johnson fourth place.
Lewis Bitney, a blue-jean-wearing Californian, will be on the lead card tomorrow. Bitney only took two bogeys and finished with a 64.
McBeth is hot! No surprises here: Paul McBeth and Ricky Wysocki took 1st and 2nd place respectively . Ricky is sitting at nine under par and Paul is only one stroke ahead.
It is looking like we are going to be seeing another classic battle between the owners of our last six disc golf world championship titles .
Will it be Paul? Ricky? Or is there another player ready to step up and seize their moment?
