By Nick Quargnenti

Last week, Eagle McMahon made waves by announcing his departure from Team Discmania. The big question on everyone’s mind: What’s next for the 2x PDGA Major champion and disc golf legend? Well, the mystery was unraveled yesterday morning (January 16, 2024), as Eagle McMahon announced on Instagram that he has officially inked a 5-year sponsorship deal with Team MVP. This strategic move isn’t just a career shift; it’s a significant chapter in McMahon’s distinguished journey. Plus, it’s a reunion with his former Discmania teammate and fellow “Crush Boy,” Simon Lizotte, adding an extra layer of excitement to the mix.

This exciting news reunites 2 standout players celebrated for their seamless on-course chemistry and off-course camaraderie, earning them a special place in fans’ hearts. Renowned for their powerful drives and charismatic personalities, this dynamic duo previously dazzled the disc golf scene as teammates under the Discmania banner. With McMahon making the move to Team MVP, there’s palpable anticipation in the disc golf community for the resurgence of the magic these phenomenal players are set to create once more.

In 2023, McMahon clinched wins in 2 Disc Golf Pro Tour events, attained a top-10 position 13 times, a podium finish 7 times, and an average round rating of 1040.89 (across DGPT Championship, Elite, Silver, and PDGA Major events). Currently holding the 1st place position in UDisc World Rankings (6th in StatMando World Rankings), and ending the season in the 5th spot in Tour Rankings with 971.68 tour points in 2023, McMahon has accumulated $319,256 in career earnings with nearly a quarter of it coming from his earnings in 2023 ($77,749) at the time of this announcement.

Fun fact: Eagle McMahon also flew away with the longest bogey-free streak last season (95), playing the equivalent of over 5 bogey-free rounds in a row while tackling some of the toughest courses on tour such as W.R. Jackson and the Disc Side of Heaven.

Following the warm welcome extended to Eagle upon joining their team, MVP also shared a fantastic update on his minor offseason surgery:

While Eagle is currently recovering from a minor offseason surgery, his rehab has been going excellently and he expects to compete on the DGPT this spring with his full toolbox intact. There’s a fire burning brightly inside Eagle, and he’s attacking rehab every day with one goal in mind: return better, stronger, rebirth. With his indominable spirit, there’s nothing Eagle can’t do on the course, and we are more than eager to see what he can do with GYRO in 2024 and beyond!” – MVP Disc Sports

And that’s not all the excitement from Eagle McMahon! Eagle’s FIRST MVP Disc is now available for presale at the DGPT Pro Shop, the Axiom Team Series Prism Proton Envy. Named “Rebirth,” this disc boasts a stunning triple-foil stamp by Mike Inscho, featuring an eagle rising from the ashes – a powerful symbol of new beginnings on his personal mold of choice, the Prism Proton Envy. As the disc golf community eagerly awaits McMahon’s debut in Team MVP colors, one thing is certain – the sport is in for an exhilarating ride.
